Jateen Lad wins RIBA International Award 2024

Jateen Lad has been awarded a prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects International Award for Excellence for his Sharanam Centre for Rural Development in south India. The building was designed and delivered for SARVAM, a unit of Sri Aurobindo Society, Pondicherry.
This award is considered one of architecture’s highest global accolades, celebrating buildings from around the world that demonstrate visionary thinking, design excellence and social impact.
The judges praised the project’s “exceptional beauty, functionality and tranquillity” and consider it “a world class exemplar for the future of low cost, innovative and green community buildings.”

Royal Society Lecture by Professor Doug King

Professor Doug King's Royal Society Lecture in London, entitled Building on Evolution, examined how historic building knowledge can be applied to develop sustainable buildings of the future and featured Jateen Lad's Sharanam and rainwater harvesting projects in Pondicherry.
Aga Khan Award for Architecture

Jateen Lad was appointed on-site Technical Reviewer for the 2013 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Detailed on-site reviews were conducted in April and presentations made to the Master Jury in Geneva in June before the award ceremony in Lisbon.
The shortlisted project above is the Preservation of the Mbaru Niang conical house in Wae Rebo village on Flores Island, Indonesia.
United Nations Environment Programme
2010
The United Nations Environment Programme's report on the State of Play of Sustainable Buildings in India rated the Sharanam Centre for Rural Development as one of the top five sustainable buildings in the country. The report prepared with The Energy Research Institute (TERI) rated design, material properties, construction practices, site management and proposed performance.
